The Vatican is Bullshit

From Secularism.org.uk :

The Pope has claimed that atheism is responsible for the destruction of the environment. In a speech at the Vatican on Wednesday, Ratzinger said: “Is it not true that inconsiderate use of creation begins where God is marginalized or also where his existence is denied? If the human creature's relationship with the Creator weakens, matter is reduced to egoistic possession, man becomes the ‘final authority,’ and the objective of existence is reduced to a feverish race to possess the most possible.”

Terry Sanderson, President of the National Secular Society, commented: “This is rich coming from the leader of an organisation that has plundered the world to enrich itself. As he sits in his golden palaces, surrounded by unimaginable luxury and material wealth, he lectures the rest of us about restraint and greed. We have nothing to learn about environmentalism from this hypocrite.”

  1. I guess what upsets me the most about the pope, is that so many seem to think he actually knows what he is talking about. I think if they truly believe what they are saying, they would rid themselves of anything not needed to live and give the rest to feed cloth and shelter others in the world.

  2. One of the best things that the pope could do for the environment is to help reduce overpopulation. There are over 6 billion people in the world today... if we keep reproducing at this speed, the earth won't be able to sustain us and overpopulation is the biggest treat to the environment.

  3. Terry Sanderson's got it spot on. The Catholic Church is probably the richest non-governmental organisation in the world.

And there's the fat Pope and his equally fat Cardinals, sitting in their materialist splendour, wanting for nothing, lecturing their poor followers.

    Hypocrites!

As a slightly related question - if the Pope is God's representative on Earth, why does he need to travel around in a bulletproof Popemobile? Surely an omnipotent, omniscient God will protect his representative.
